Susan Lucci and her late husband, Helmut Huber, share two kids.
Susan’s eldest child, Liza Huber, revealed that her son, Brendan, has cerebral palsy.
Fans were amazed by how much Liza looks just like her mom, Susan.
Susan Lucci and her late husband, Helmut Huber, tied the knot on September 13, 1969. The two were happily married for 53 years before Helmut died peacefully on Long Island, New York, on March 20, 2022.
Susan and Helmut had two kids together, Liza Huber, 48, and Andreas Huber. The actress was happy to start a family with Helmut, and she worked hard to balance motherhood and her busy schedule at work.
Susan and Helmut spent their time together loving each other. When the Austrian-born chef was still alive, he didn’t hesitate to celebrate special days with his wife.
Ahead of their 50th anniversary, Helmut and his wife were excited to spend time together doing something unique. The “Devious Maids” star said she and Helmut would probably spend it in Austria, where Susan noted her deceased husband was from. She predicted that the trip would be a great one because she hadn’t been to some places in Austria, though they’ve it visited it many times.
Susan also revealed during their 50th anniversary what she loved in Helmut. The “All My Children” actress said Helmut looked very imposing, but then he was a very funny man. She loved that he didn’t look like somebody who could make her laugh, but then he always made her laugh.
Helmut and Susan also enjoyed the gift of being grandparents and great-grandparents. The actress and her late husband have eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Susan is a doting grandmother who said all her grandkids are great. When asked what kind of grandma she was, Susan said she was one who loved kissing, tickling, feeding, and hugging her grandkids.
Susan gets her grandkids from Liza and Andreas. Liza, who is her mom’s lookalike, was born on February 22, 1975, in Long Island, New York. Liza has followed in her mom’s footsteps and is an actress. She has featured in productions such as the soap opera “Passions” and the game show “Hollywood Squares.”
Liza is a doting mom to her kids. She is married to Alexander George Hesterberg III, and the duo have four kids together, Royce, Brendan, Hayden, and Mason. Liza opened up in 2020 about raising her son Brendan, who has cerebral palsy.
She announced that the surgery was a success and shared a picture of Liza looking happy.
The “Street Smarts” actress said her entire body froze when she was told Brendan had cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is a neurological condition caused mainly by brain injury during pregnancy and birth, and it affects a child’s muscle movement. The actress wept when she learned her son had this condition because she felt a deep sadness that Brendan would have to deal with the condition his entire life.
However, Liza was also grateful that, unlike other kids with the condition, her son could walk. Liza doesn’t want to hide the fact that Brendan has cerebral palsy. She noted that if she hid it from the public, then her son would feel worse about the condition. The actress wants her son to feel good and proud and celebrate how he overcomes challenges with cerebral palsy.
Liza recalled that she had a normal pregnancy, but something in her mind would tell her that everything wasn’t okay. At 31 weeks, on August 16, 2008, Liza felt the most excruciating pain she had ever felt that had her doubled over and almost passed out.
Alexander wasn’t at home as he was in London. The couple didn’t think the baby would come so soon, so Liza was home alone. She rushed to the emergency room, where Susan joined her as she was still pushing. On that day, Brendan was born nine weeks earlier.
Brendan was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit as he only weighed 4 lbs., 10 ounces. Six days after his birth, Liza’s son stopped breathing and was placed on a ventilator. Five weeks after his birth, Brendan came home, and Liza quit acting to take care of her kids.
Liza launched Sage Spoonfuls, a company that helps parents make healthy food for their kids. She focused on her kids and her career, which now ensured she could work from home. When Brendan turned ten months old, Liza realized he couldn’t sit up on his own. The mom of four knew something was wrong but was in denial.
When Brendan couldn’t stand at 19 months, Liza eventually took him to a doctor who diagnosed him with cerebral palsy. Liza told Brendan of his condition when he was in kindergarten. The little boy couldn’t understand why he was tripping and falling in school, but his mom explained the condition to him.
Over the years, Brendan’s accomplishments, despite his condition, have been many. His mom is proud of him and wants to celebrate each milestone. Susan is also proud of his grandson. She calls him a spectacular little boy who has taught her that one has to go forward and that life is a gift.
The proud mother and grandmother let Brendan join them on the red carpet on March 9, 2016, at the Women Who Care Awards luncheon. The trio smiled brightly on the red carpet as they attended the event organized by United Cerebral Palsy of New York City.
Brendan could walk well thanks to the surgery he underwent. The selective dorsal rhizotomy surgery cut his sensory nerves in the lower spinal cord. The surgery improved Brendan’s ability to walk, stand upright, and step down with his feet flat.
Susan has been there for her daughter throughout this journey after Brendan was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The actress loves sharing pictures of Liza on social media, where fans pointed out just how similar mother and daughter look.
On National Daughter’s Day in 2020, Susan shared a picture of Liza with his dad. She said Helmut and Liza had taken the picture on one of their ski trips to Austria. A fan pointed out that Liza looked like her mom but was tall like her dad.
In 2016, Susan shared a cute picture of her daughter posing next to her husband at a wedding party. Liza and Alexander were all smiles in the picture. A fan commented, “Liza looks just like her gorgeous mom.”
Fans also told Susan that Liza “Looks just like you” when she posted a selfie of the two of them captioned “Mother/daughter alert.” Mother and daughter wore identical smiles in the picture, and a fan said they looked “beautiful.”
Liza has a bright and stunning smile like her mother, who has supported her through the challenges she faced in motherhood, especially after Brendan was born. Together, Susan and Liza are striving hard to raise awareness for cerebral palsy and support causes associated with the condition.
