Shannen Doherty, known for her many roles in television and film, recently shared a post on Instagram detailing her battle against cancer. After many years of working as a successful actress, Doherty announced that she was diagnosed with brain cancer. On June 16, she shared a video of the latest developments.
In the caption to a clip the actress posted on Instagram, she wrote that her medical journey has been filled with fear and numerous daunting moments, but she tries to be strong through it all. The fear of leaving her mother behind, or even losing a part of herself, has almost paralyzed her with fear, but she has held on to hope.

The clip showed Doherty in a hospital bed in a gown, cap, and face mask listening to the medical staff explaining the medical procedure she was about to undergo. The actress could be seen listening intently at the specifics of the procedure with her hands patiently folded in her lap. The caption read:

“January 16, 2023. Surgery. I had a tumor in my head they wanted to remove and also biopsy. I am clearly trying to be brave but I am petrified. The fear was overwhelming to me … This is what cancer can look like.”

The actress was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, although the disease apparently went into remission two years after the initial diagnosis. However, the cancer unexpectedly returned in 2020, when doctors informed her that the diseased cells had spread to her brain.
Doherty’s Recovery and Divorce
Doherty was undoubtedly pleased to hear that her surgery had been successful, although there were still a few more obstacles in her path that would test her fortitude. Amid her recovery from cancer, the actress filed for divorce from her husband, Kurt Iswarienko.
Her most recent post elicited strong reactions from her fans, with many praising her for moving on with her life.

The actress commented that she never wanted a divorce, and when she was diagnosed with cancer, the disease seemed to strengthen her marriage. Sadly, over time, things between Doherty and her husband unraveled once more, which resulted in her decision to file for divorce in April. Luckily, she has managed to keep her positive attitude.
Moving on and Building a New Life
Although her divorce wasn’t an easy process, Doherty decided to move on with her life instead of wallowing in the pain of her failed marriage. She recently posted a picture of herself on a date with Chris Cortazzo.
While the details of their relationship remain unclear, the actress refers to Cortazzo as her very good friend. Doherty posted an image of herself and Cortazzo on a date in February 2021, and the two only seem to have grown closer.
