71-year-old John Goodman from “Roseanne” recently showcased his 200-pound weight loss. The appearance drew both concern and admiration from fans.

John Goodman showcased his weight transformation at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York. Appearing with his wife Anna Beth, he wore a dark green sweatshirt, khaki pants, and Hoka sneakers.

As fans expressed mixed reactions ranging from support to concern, discussions also surfaced about the methods behind Goodman’s weight loss, with some speculating about medical interventions. Reactions reflected both support for his healthier lifestyle and worries over his aged look.

The internet buzzed with comments from fans after Goodman’s latest photos emerged. Some expressed joy: “I love him any way he comes as long as he feels good,” while others noted, “That’s the scary part. The ‘looking deflated’ part. It’s healthier though.” One fan said, “Glad he’s taking care of himself.”

Speculations like “It’s called Ozempic,” also surfaced. Others corrected, “He stopped drinking. It wasn’t Ozempic.” Remarks about his drastically changed physique included, “John Goodman is half the man he was,” and concerns such as, “Looks sick. Didn’t know who he was. WOW,” “Looks ill,” and “Made him look a lot older.”

While Goodman’s health improvements are recent, his commitment to change started back in 2007 with his decision to quit drinking, a pivotal moment that reshaped his future. He has also adopted a Mediterranean-style eating plan.

The eating plan emphasizes fish, nuts, olive oil, vegetables, and fruit. He is also committed to rigorous daily exercise, including 10,000 to 12,000 steps on an elliptical bike and treadmill.

Other exercise includes boxing and dog walks. He joked that boxing was great for fitness though he steered clear of sparring. He has not always been this healthy, though.

Goodman found the motivation to live a healthier lifestyle after a realization about his drinking problem. He did not think he had a drinking problem because people were still hiring him as an actor.

Yet the visible effects of his alcoholism—red cheeks and slurred speech—prompted a rethink. His turning point was a golf weekend with friends; by Sunday, he was shaking but still drinking. He knew he could no longer continue drinking that way.

He then asked his wife to help him. He humorously remarked, “it was like turning myself in to the Gestapo.” She made some calls that day and got him into a treatment center where he detoxed. He remarked that when he had detoxed, he realized he liked the feeling of being sober.

His decision to get sober came after a long career in Hollywood, which began on a rocky path and extremely humble beginnings. Along the way, he made some friends and found his way into television and movies. He has since had a successful career.

Goodman shared insights into his challenging beginnings in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen during the 1970s. With just $1,000 and no job prospects, he encountered a rough neighborhood marked by drug use and poverty.

His living conditions were far from ideal, with communal bathrooms and a bathtub in the kitchen. Despite these hardships, Goodman found companionship and camaraderie.

Bruce Willis, a fellow actor and bartender, provided some relief from the harsh realities of their environment and living situation. Goodman joked about his fear of bringing women back to his apartment in the early days. His bathtub was in his kitchen and he had hand-rigged a shower to it. He joked, “It wasn’t exactly Hef’s mansion.”

Now, Goodman has turned his life around is much healthier. he is celebrating almost sixteen years of sobriety and his newfound fitness journey. Fans are hopeful about his future and share their encouragement often. Goodman himself has shared how much happier he is now, too.

This is not the first time Goodman’s weight has been a point of interest. We previously reported on how Goodman lost the weight, focusing on health.

While some fans debated whether he looked better now that he had made this transformation, others wondered how Goodman had shed the weight and managed to keep it off for as long as he had.

In 2016, Goodman believed he weighed somewhere close to 400 lbs when he decided to change. While he was usually able to lose a lot of weight in three or four months, he usually put the weight back on quickly. He shared:

“Then, this time, I wanted to do it slowly, move, exercise. I’m getting to the age where I can’t afford to sit still anymore.”

Goodman said that exercising and eating better had also given him the energy to work, which he found draining. He decided to lose weight once and for all when he no longer wanted to look at himself in the mirror.

The actor also hired a personal trainer, Mackie Shilstone, who combined diet and exercise to help him lose weight and keep it off. Shilstone revealed Goodman’s weight loss had been an ongoing process and did not happen overnight.

Shilstone also advised Goodman to follow a Mediterranean meal plan comprising fruits, vegetables, nuts, fish, and olive oil. The actor exercised six days a week and walked between 10,000 and 20,000 steps daily.
