“Once-in-a-lifetime”: This mother-heroine from Mali gave birth to 9 babies
Expecting twins is rather rare and unique, but what about giving birth to more than two or three children at the same time? For example, nine! Exactly this happened to a heroic girl from Mali, Morocco.
Today’s mom-heroine’s name from this African country is Halima. In her 20s, the woman definitely wasn’t going to give birth to many children. But now, Halima is considered to be a happy mother for her four sons and five daughters.
During her pregnancy, the woman was constantly under the control of experiences doctors as at any moment one of her babies could possibly pass away or, the heroine herself. Once the weight of each baby exceeded half kilos, Halima had a caesarean section. Fortunately, all her babies survived the operation.
However, the newborns had to be in oxygen chambers for a relatively long time. Their weight and level of development was very small for allowing them to go home to Mali. But in the course of time, the newborn children were becoming stronger and stronger.
Soon, they promised the young parents to let the large and happy family head home due to the fact that all nine kids were developing in accordance with all the norms and they no more needed to always be under the control. Multiple pregnancy often occurs due to in vitro fertilization. Whereas in this specific case, everything happened naturally and all nine babies were able to survive. According to all the doctors, this was actually once in a lifetime case.
Some people hold the opinion that the African origin of the parents played a huge role. But the studies have proved that nationality features can’t anyhow affect that. That is why Halima’s case can be called a unique and exclusive one both for the mother herself and the history of medicine.
