One Texas teacher usually gifted her children books for Christmas, but this year, she was inspired to do something more heartfelt. She enlisted her mother to present the children with items they’d had a big hand in creating: hats.
A social media user showed other people what it really meant to be a teacher. She revealed how she got into the profession to educate and mold children, and sometimes surprise them with special gifts!
The TikTok user named Mrs. White took to the platform on December 4, 2023, to share a TikTok post of herself, revealing while seated in her second-grade classroom, that she usually gave her students books each year for Christmas. She explained that she bought cheap books, and then the children played a game where they passed the books around until each got one.
Then, the students would open them and see what they’d be reading. However, for 2023, White’s mother gave her an idea for a different yearly gift for the children. The teacher’s parent suggested she give each child a piece of paper with an outline of a Christmas hat, which they had to color.
The coolest part about this gift was that White’s mother brought the hats to life by knitting them precisely how the children colored them on paper. One example that the teacher showed was a rainbow-colored hat that one of the students created.
White explained that many of the children liked the rainbow color design because that’s what she used as an example of how the paper hat could be colored. The teacher concluded her first video by noting how excited her students would be to see their creations come to life.
Several followers asked to see the rest since she had only shown three of the completed hat designs. So, in a follow-up clip the next day, White, along with the colored drawings, the teacher showed the results of the hats. One was a mixture of blue, shades of orange, and green.
Some boys in the class matched their friends’ colored papers by coloring them to look the same, which meant they’d receive matching hats. One unique one that stood out was an orange, pink, blue, green, and white hat with rainbow speckles on the white.
She explained to them that each child would get their drawing back, plus a real matching hat!
One child had their hat colored solid black, which they would receive. White explained that the children didn’t know why she had them color in the Christmas hats on paper because she’d told them she needed the artwork for a bulletin board she was making.
Instead of giving them their surprise on that day, she’d decided to wait until the class’s Christmas party. One of the hats was a solid lime green. A follower commented below the post was confused by the hat because the picture that came with it looked multi-colored, leading White to reply:
“It’s just two random scribbles on the page. The student wrote ‘green’ with an arrow towards it lol.”
One of the designs the Texas resident showed was one made by a student who moved before she could give them their hat. Days before Christmas Day, on December 20, 2023, White returned with another TikTok update showing her presenting her class with their surprise gifts.
While seated on her chair, she confessed to the children that she might’ve “fibbed a bit” about needing the colored designs for a bulletin board. When she told and demonstrated to the children what she and her mother had done, the little ones couldn’t help but squeal joyfully!
She explained to them that each child would get their drawing back, plus a real matching hat! The excitement in the children was palpable as they conversed with each other loudly and expressed their happiness. White also noted to the children that she was going to send the video to her mother, Mrs. Bell, and asked the children what they had to say to the generous parent, and they adorably replied in unison:
“Thank you!!!”
The clip cut out before the children could be called up and given gifts. Hopefully, White’s generosity and ideas are something others can replicate in their personal lives because handcrafted gifts are almost always well received.
